School Board Scraps Dress Code Policy

Share

Pomona school board members voted Tuesday to give its dress code policy a good swift kick in the pants--ensuring that an attorney doesn’t do the same to the district.

The policy required female teachers at the Pomona Unified School District’s three “fundamental schools” to wear skirts, while their male counterparts had to dress in slacks and ties.

As a result of the board’s decision, teachers are now required to dress “appropriately,” but skirts and ties will no longer be enforced, district officials said.

After suing the district, Yorba Elementary School teacher Roxanne Pittman trounced the trousers policy last month, accepting a $10,000 court settlement and the right to wear pants. But her attorney, Glenn Rothner, threatened to sue on behalf of other female teachers if the ban was not universally lifted.
