Pro Baseball Player’s Carwash Plan OKd

Professional baseball player Lenny Dykstra’s plans to build a carwash and baseball memorabilia showroom have won unanimous approval from the Simi Valley Planning Commission, nearly four months after a competing carwash won a court order blocking the project.

In November, a Ventura County Superior Court judge ruled the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder’s proposed business violated planning requirements. An amended plan for the project at the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and 1st Street was submitted to the Planning Commission.

Under the plan, the southern portion of the 3.36-acre parcel where Lenny Dykstra’s Auto Center is to be built would be changed from residential to commercial zoning, Simi Valley Senior Planner Rich Braun said.

Following the Planning Commission’s 5-0 vote, the project will go before the City Council in the next few weeks for final approval, Braun said.
