Church Leaders Urge Suicide Alternatives

Congress should ban the use of federal funds for doctor-assisted suicide and promote better training of professionals in relieving pain and depression for the terminally ill, religious leaders said. Boston Archbishop Bernard Law and Jewish, Greek Orthodox and Lutheran leaders are backing bills to ban the use of government funds for assisted suicide. Such funds could come through federally supported clinics or Medicaid and Medicare.
