David G. Cameron; Attorney, Preservationist

David G. Cameron, 52, attorney and preservationist of historical sites in Los Angeles and elsewhere in California. He had been chairman of the State Historical Resources Commission since last year and previously headed the Los Angeles County Historical Landmarks and Records Commission. A film and railroad historian, Cameron served as board chairman of the Los Angeles Theater Foundation and for 25 years was the president of the Electric Railway Historical Assn. of Southern California. He represented preservationists on the final run of Angels Flight in 1969 and the first one after restoration in 1996. He earned the California Preservation Foundation annual design award in 1990 for his structure report on a downtown railway substation. Cameron also served on boards of the Los Angeles Conservancy and the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions. Educated at Pomona College and UCLA Law School, Cameron lived in Santa Monica and co-founded and headed the Santa Monica Historical Society and the Santa Monica Heritage Square Museum Society. On Feb. 27 in Monterey, Calif., of undisclosed causes.
