Riordan to Speak at Community Breakfast

Share

Mayor Richard Riordan will deliver a short talk and take questions from San Fernando Valley residents, organization leaders and business owners Thursday at the fourth annual Mayor’s Breakfast.

City Councilmen Richard Alarcon and Hal Bernson, who represent portions of the Valley, and Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti are among the city officials scheduled to attend. Two officers from the North Hollywood LAPD station will appear on behalf of their colleagues to accept honors for their work during and after the Feb. 28 bank shootout.

Riordan’s aides said his remarks on Valley-specific tax, economic and community issues will be fairly brief to give the audience time for questions.

The event, organized by the San Fernando Valley Assn. of Realtors and sponsored by 19 organizations and businesses, is set for 7:30 a.m. at the Sportsmen’s Lodge Hotel, 12833 Ventura Blvd., Studio City.

Previous breakfasts have drawn crowds averaging about 375, said Millie Jones, a real estate association spokeswoman. She said the event has evolved from a real estate meeting to more of a community forum.

“This has turned out to be more than a Realtors’ breakfast,” she said. “We have a lot of members of the community coming out. It’s an opportunity to continue the rapport that our members have established.

“Realtors are stakeholders in the community. Who knows better what’s going on? They’re the ones knocking on doors.”

The Van Nuys-based real estate group bills itself as California’s largest, with 6,200 members. For more information, call Jones at (818) 786-2110.
