Swiss Fund

Re “Switzerland Unveils Plan for $4.7-Billion Victims Fund,” March 6: I am a child of a mother who was rescued from a pile of corpses in Bergen-Belsen and a father who came out of Dachau weighing 80 pounds with nothing but a blanket.

I find it laughable that half the beneficiaries of this victims fund will be in Switzerland, when the majority of the people who escaped the mass murder by the German death machinery live on the North American continent and in Israel.

Divide the total sum by the number of living victims and give each a lump sum now, not in 1998. The people who survived are dying. There is no time left. When the victims were liberated, they had nothing. Their lives had been stolen. I say to the Swiss: Do the right and honorable thing now. Instead of setting up a fund burdened with bureaucracy that will dishonor what could be an honorable deed, pay each victim now. The Swiss kept what the Germans stole. Give back to all what should have been given back 52 years ago.
