Teachers Union Withdraws Grievance

Share

After more than a month of debate at several board meetings, the teachers union has withdrawn a grievance against a Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District trustee.

The Assn. of Placentia-Linda Educators withdrew its complaint after the board issued a statement affirming the trustees’ right to visit campuses and examine instructional materials, so long as they do not interrupt classes or intimidate teachers.

The union’s complaint had alleged that board member Roseann Thorn had disrupted classes while visiting Travis Ranch school, where she is a volunteer and her children are enrolled.

“We therefore withdraw our grievance at this time being satisfied that there are assurances against future violations by board members,” union President Randy Dennis stated in a letter to the school district. “We do reserve the right to proceed in the future if these assurances are not met.”
