Lifeguard Tryouts Scheduled Sunday

Tryouts for lifeguard cadets will be at 8 a.m. Sunday at lifeguard headquarters, 103 Pacific Coast Highway, one block south of the pier. Applicants must be 17 or older. The trials consist of a 1,000-yard swim, a 400-yard ocean sprint swim and a 1,500-yard run-swim-run.

Those who qualify will go through a brief series of screening questions.

As many as 30 qualifiers will be eligible for lifeguard cadet training, set for March 29 through April 6. Final testing will be April 12-13. Those who pass will be placed on a hiring list and ranked on their scores.
