Alleged Deadbeat Dad Arrested in Washington
A 38-year-old man who allegedly owes his former wife about $56,000 in child support was arrested by authorities last week near his home in Washington state, authorities said.
Authorities said Steven Joel Klennert of Vancouver, Wash., paid just $360 in support of his son, now 15 and living with his mother, since the marriage dissolved in 1981, according to Ventura County Deputy Dist. Atty. Kevin Farrell.
Authorities would not disclose the woman’s identity or where she lives.
County district attorney’s office investigators posed as customers of Klennert’s 15-year-old vacuum cleaner business in Vancouver, Farrell said.
An arrest warrant was issued, and Klennert was taken into custody Wednesday by agents from the Clark County, Wash., prosecuting attorney’s office. He has waived extradition and will be returned to Ventura County this week, Farrell said.
Klennert is the fourth person in 18 months brought back to Ventura County on child support charges, according to Farrell.
