Like Hot Cakes: Traffic was brisk Saturday at the Valley Vineyard Church in Reseda, where an estimated 2,000 needy people lined up for free groceries and children’s clothing. More than 2 1/2 tons of food and 2 tons of clothing were snapped up between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., said Cindy Anderson, director of the Tree of Life Ministries, which organized the giveaway. “It was wild,” Anderson said. “It was just an awesome event.”

Fatal Crash: A woman was killed and a man critically injured Saturday when their plane crashed into an unoccupied house in Pacoima. A fireman, above, leaves the house after the crash. (B1).

Noisy Debate: The city’s proposed master plan for Van Nuys Airport calls for expanding the number of helicopters and jets using what is already the busiest general aviation airport in the world. Neighborhood activists, concerned mainly about noise, instead favor scaling back existing traffic or converting the site to non-aviation use (B1).
