Class to Teach Basics of Baby-Sitting

Share

Boys and girls in grades five through nine can attend a two-hour baby-sitting clinic Wednesday at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital and learn the basics of caring for an infant or child.

The clinic will cover safety precautions, first aid, how to handle an emergency and how to feed, hold and diaper a child. The clinic also addresses what is expected of the baby sitter and how to make the experience more enjoyable.

“I like to stress what’s expected of them and then how to go about marketing baby-sitting skills,” said Debra Belding-Hillman, health education specialist.

Clinic participants will receive a certificate after the training.

“We try to build confidence and let them know that now that they know the specifics, they can go out and do this,” Belding-Hillman said.

Participants should bring a doll or stuffed animal to practice holding and diapering.

The cost is $5. The clinic will be held in Classroom 1 on the third floor of the Camarillo hospital, 2309 Antonio Ave.

For reservations, call 389-5176.
