Housing Update

The average price of homes sold in the San Fernando Valley in February dipped to the lowest level in 10 years. The last time the average price was below $203,100 was in June 1987. But the selection is narrow, with only 5,088 single-family homes on the market. . . . “We’d be selling more if only we had the inventory,” said Mel Wilson, realty board president (D11D).

Champs

About 200 students, faculty and cheerleaders welcomed home El Camino Real High School’s Academic Decathlon champions Monday. “We had the highest-scoring team in state history,” Principal Ron Bauer told the cheering crowd. After the 20-minute rally, the decathletes went home to sleep. . . . Today, they’re back cramming for the April national finals.

Star Pitch

Antelope Valley baseball fans may get to see Randy Johnson pitch after all. The Seattle Mariners say the ace left-hander will be on the mound at a March 30 exhibition game against the minor-league JetHawks. A back injury kept Johnson out of the Lancaster stadium last summer, disappointing a sellout crowd. . . . The upcoming game was sold out, too, even before the rotation was announced.
