From Times Wire Reports

Hundreds of government troops handed over weapons to victorious rebels in the city of Kisangani, as Zaire’s government urged its citizens not to panic over the military defeat. About 300 soldiers, some in tattered uniforms and others in civilian clothes, handed over arms at a camp six miles outside Kisangani, which fell to rebels Saturday. Rebels now reportedly are preparing for a two-pronged advance in the Shaba region and in northern Zaire near a home of President Mobutu Sese Seko.
