No. 7 Trojans Shut Out the Titans on Three Hits

USC held Cal State Fullerton to three hits as the Trojans beat the Titans, 2-0, in nonconference baseball Tuesday at Dedeaux Field.

USC, ranked seventh in the nation, scored in the seventh inning when Robb Gorr led off with a single to right and stole second. After Morgan Ensberg walked, Brian Ponchak slashed a single to center to give USC a 1-0 lead. Jason Brown scored in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Eric Munson.

Jack Krawczyk picked up his seventh save for USC (23-8). John Alkire (0-2), who shut out the Trojans for six innings, took the loss for the Titans (16-12).

In another nonconference game:

Long Beach State 7, Pepperdine 4--Casey Martin, who had four RBIs, hit a two-run single to highlight a five-run eighth for host Long Beach (14-11), which won its sixth straight game. Pepperdine is 11-15.

In the Golden State Athletic Conference softball:

Southern California College 6-5, Point Loma Nazarene 3-3--Gretchen Brandt (3-4) pitched a complete game, allowing a run on four hits and two walks. She also struck out six for SCC (5-21-1, 2-2) in the second game of a doubleheader.

In the first game, Michelle Murie hit a bases-loaded triple to spark a five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth for SCC. Point Loma is 9-3, 3-3.
