Q: Why are there A, AA, AAA, C and D batteries, but not B batteries?

A: There are B batteries, but they are not used in the United States, according to Keith Schopp, a spokesman for Eveready Corp. The B battery is 1.5 volts and is a cylinder 20.1 millimeters wide and 56 millimeters long. The D cell, in contrast, is 34.2 millimeters wide and 61.5 millimeters long. The primary market for B cells, according to Schopp, is England, where they are used in bicycle headlights.
