An ammunition dump exploded near the eastern city of Jalalabad, sending debris and undetonated ordnance raining onto a residential area. Red Cross spokesman Jean Luc Paladini in Kabul, the capital, said rescue workers recovered 16 bodies. He said 81 people were taken to a Jalalabad hospital, and 110 were treated for minor injuries but not hospitalized. It was unclear whether the explosion was sabotage or an accident.
