Bank of America to Close 33 More Branches

Bank of America said it will shut down 33 branches in a second round of closures aimed at adjusting to its customers’ rapidly changing banking habits. The state’s biggest banking concern, which has found that its customers are using its 1,400 branches in California less frequently, will close 11 branches in Orange County, eight in Los Angeles County and four in Ventura County by the end of July. The accounts will be consolidated into nearby offices. Most employees in those branches are expected to be transferred to other jobs, including a new program creating liaison officers to help frequent customers with their transactions, bank spokeswoman Lisa Margolin-Feher said. The San Francisco-based bank said in December that it would close 120 California branches this year as part of a global restructuring that would eliminate 3,700 jobs.
