Bailon Sets a School Record as Cypress Beats Irvine Valley

Cypress’ Michelle Bailon, who was three for three, set a single-season school record with her 11th double of the year as the Chargers defeated Irvine Valley, 1-0, in Orange Empire Conference softball.

Jessica Walker doubled to score Rachelle Vandiver with one out in the bottom of the third. Vandiver singled to open the inning, stole second, and advanced to third on Sandra Mulder’s sacrifice.

Jamie Wilkes (18-2) pitched a four-hit shutout for Cypress (33-3, 8-1).

In other conference softball:

Rancho Santiago 8, Orange Coast 0 (6 innings)--Sheryl Anderson pitched a no-hitter with three strikeouts for Rancho Santiago (5-10, 1-6). Selena Aquino was two for four, including a two-run single in a five-run fourth inning.

Riverside 8, Golden West 1--Mandy Dorow (18-8) pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks for Riverside (18-8, 6-4). Jill Cardiel was two for three with a run scored for Golden West (6-13-1, 2-7).

In South Coast Conference men’s swimming:

Golden West 81, El Camino 22--Albert Sutanto’s winning time of 1 minute 51.70 seconds in the 200-yard butterfly set a school record, surpassing Rafael Giajarro’s 1994 mark of 1:53.80.

Sutanto also won the 200 freestyle (1:48.11) and led off the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:25.11).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Los Angeles Pierce 0--Chris Kosty had 16 kills as Golden West won, 15-4, 15-3, 15-3. Teammate Scott Lane had 13 points for the Rustlers (13-1, 9-1).

Greg Logan had 44 assists for Golden West. Rick Barnett had 11 kills for Pierce (9-2, 8-2).
