Seacomp Inc. Appoints Edwards as Chairman

James J. Edwards Jr. has been appointed chairman and chief executive of Seacomp Inc. in Irvine. He joined the company after eight years as a corporate officer and vice president of Northrop Grumman. Before that, Edwards was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Sargent-Fletcher following 30 years with Rockwell International.

Stephen Shirley has been named resident manager and senior vice president of Hambrecht & Quist’s Newport Beach office. Joining him in the new office are: Christopher Copps, senior vice president; Michael C. Kranzley, vice president; Shirley Quackenbush, vice president; and Diane Coon, vice president. Prior to joining Hambrecht & Quist, Shirley had been at Prudential Securities since 1993 where he opened a corporate services-oriented office in Newport Beach.

Joni Simpkins has been named director of sales and marketing for the Anaheim Inn at the Park. She was previously national account manager for Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, and was also director of association sales for the Red Lion Hotel in Costa Mesa.

H.J. Mark Tompkins and George L. Argyros have been elected directors of Apria Healthcare Group Inc. in Costa Mesa. Tompkins is chief executive of a Belgian company. He served on the board of directors of Abbey Healthcare Group Inc., one of Apria’s predecessor companies, from 1992 to 1995. He fills a vacancy resulting from the resignation of Timothy M. Aitken, Apria’s former vice chairman and president, in November 1995. Argyros is chairman and chief executive of Arnel & Affiliates, a private investment firm. He succeeds Charles D. Martin, who is retiring.

William R. Benz and Lee R. Thomas III have been named managing directors of Pacific Investment Management Co., a Newport Beach investment management firm. Douglas M. Hodge and Ernest L. Schmider were appointed executive vice presidents, and Leslie A. Barbi, Pasi M. Hamalainen, Michael J. Rosborough and George H. Wood were named senior vice presidents.

Patrick Dolan has been appointed president of Systems Management Specialists, a Santa Ana provider of computer services. Mike Winder, the company’s founder, will continue in the position of chief executive and chairman of the board. Dolan has been chief operating officer since 1993.

Donald E. Porter Jr. has joined MBK Construction Ltd. in Irvine, a division of MBK Real Estate Ltd., in the newly created position of director of project support services. He previously spent more than 15 years with Kitchell Contractors as manager of support services in both the Irvine and Phoenix offices.

David E. Nesbit has joined Pinnacle Micro Inc., an Irvine recordable CD technology and optical storage systems company, in the newly created position of vice president of operations. He was formerly vice president at Comptronix Corp. Nesbit also spent four years as business operations manager for the recording systems division of Ampex Corp., a commercial broadcast company.

Ashot Petrossian has been named vice president of production and process development for Techniclone Corp., a Tustin cancer therapeutics company. He had been director. Also, David R. Allen was appointed to the newly created position of vice president and general manager of the radiopharmaceutical group.

James D. Evert has been named president and chief executive of Novalog Inc., a subsidiary of Irvine Sensors Corp. in Costa Mesa. Evert was also been named a director, and James Alexiou, chairman of Irvine Sensors, has been named Novalog’s chairman of the board. Christopher T. Pinckney was appointed vice president and general manager, and Robert E. DeCaro was selected vice president of engineering and quality assurance.

Dennis J. Popovec has been appointed vice president and treasurer of Rockwell International Corp. in Seal Beach. He succeeds Lee H. Cramer, who announced his resignation in order to pursue other business interests. Popovec joined Rockwell in 1981 and was most recently assistant treasurer, a position he assumed in 1989. He will continue to be based in the company’s Pittsburgh office.

Ken Kraus is the new general manager of the Buena Park Mall, a 1.2-million- square-foot regional shopping center. Kraus was previously with the Hahn Corp. for seven years, serving in various management positions at five regional malls in Southern California.

Don B. Saulic has joined Burlington Air Express in Irvine as senior vice president and global chief information officer. Previously, Saulic was chief information officer at Budget Rent-A-Car Corp.

Robert J. Trapp has been appointed president of the Southern California operation of Capital Pacific Holdings Inc., a Newport Beach home builder. He will oversee the company’s home construction activities in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, as well as the planned expansion into San Diego County. Trapp, who joined Capital Pacific in 1980, was previously Orange County division manager. In addition, Craig Foster, a 13-year veteran of the company, has been named vice president of sales and marketing for the California operation.

J. W. Huntsberger, a vice president of Marine National Bank, has been named manager of the Irvine office. He was formerly a senior loan officer. Huntsberger joined Marine National four years ago, after being a vice president and senior loan officer at the former Bank of Newport.

Brenda S. Ellsworth has joined the Irvine CPA firm of Glenn M. Gelman & Associates as a senior tax manager. She was formerly with Coopers & Lybrand LLP in San Jose. In addition, Marc Merrill has been named a management consultant. For the last eight years, Merrill was chief financial officer for Comp-Tech.
