Utility Executives to Discuss Deregulation

Share

Executives from major utility companies and the energy marketing and legal professions are scheduled to participate in a panel discussion Wednesday titled “Making Cents of Electric Restructuring.”

The panel will be part of the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn.’s general membership meeting at the Airtel Plaza Hotel near the Van Nuys Airport.

Topics to be covered include an overview of recent litigation and attempts to regulate the electric power industry. Panelists will also discuss how companies may save money and time under the new guidelines.

Panelists will represent such companies as Texaco, Pacific Enterprises, New Energy Ventures, L G & E Power Marketing, the law firm Reznik & Reznik and the city Department of Water and Power.

The electrical power industry is scheduled to be deregulated in California beginning Jan. 1, 1998. Deregulation will enable companies across the region--and some on the East Coast as well--to offer special price reductions to customers. Analysts say the savings will be possible because companies will be granted new freedom to simultaneously market services including home security systems, telephone service and travel reservations.

Rebecca Thompson of Reznik & Reznik, who chairs the association’s Environment and Water Committee, will moderate.

The meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public. The cost is $20 per person. Call (818) 888-2228 for more information.
