George C. Andersen; Led Medical, Anti-Drug Groups

Dr. George C. Andersen, 90, former head of county medical and drug abuse groups. Andersen was president of the Los Angeles County Medical Assn. in the late 1960s, and in 1971 was elected chairman of the Los Angeles County Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission. A native of Indiana, he served in the Naval Medical Corp. in World War II. Andersen maintained a family medical practice for 38 years in Hermosa Beach, and was a consultant to the State Board of Medical Examiners. Active in his community, Andersen worked in the Hermosa Beach Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce, the Redondo Beach Salvation Army Advisory Board and Red Cross. He helped found the South Bay Symphony Assn. and was a vestryman in the St. Cross Episcopal Church. On Tuesday at his retirement home in New Mexico.
