Restaurant Manager Chased, Shot at Parents’ Front Door

Police are searching for three men suspected of chasing a restaurant manager to his parents’ house and then shooting him as he was banging on the door, investigators said Monday.

James Crenshaw, 26-year-old manager of Hometown Buffet, was in stable condition at an area hospital Monday, police said.

Crenshaw was on duty about 8 p.m. when two men entered his La Habra restaurant, sat down at different tables and ordered food. An employee noticed that the same two men had been at the restaurant two days earlier and suspected that they might be casing the place, Fullerton Police Sgt. Glenn Deveney said.

When the men got into a silver, two-door Honda Civic driven by a third person, Crenshaw became even more suspicious and followed them in his own car to get a license plate number, Deveney said.

But before Crenshaw could get the number, the three suspects noticed that they were being followed and began chasing the restaurant manager, police said. Crenshaw, in panic, drove to his parents’ home nearby in Fullerton and pounded on the door, Deveney said.

One of the suspects fired several rounds, hitting Crenshaw in the upper torso, police said.

The gunman then fled, and Crenshaw’s mother opened the front door to find her wounded son, Deveney said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call (714) 738-6715.
