Furon Co.: The Laguna Niguel manufacturer of engineered polymer components reported a net loss of $39.8 million, or $4.47 a share, for the fiscal year ended Feb. 1, which included special charges of $58 million. The charges stemmed primarily from Furon’s acquisition of Medex Inc., completed in January. A year ago, the company earned $13.2 million, or $1.46 a share. Sales advanced 13% to $390.1 million from $344.9 million.

For the fourth quarter, the company posted a net loss of $52.3 million, or $5.86 a share, contrasted with profit of $3.3 million, or 37 cents a share, for the fourth quarter a year earlier. Sales gained 16% to $102.9 million from $88.7 million a year ago.
