Squandered Gifts

What is wrong with society? Remember the joy experienced when hearing those words, “It’s a boy! It’s a girl!” Parents, grandparents, relatives and friends shared in this happy occasion.

Now, more than ever, we read in the papers or hear on television that these “precious gifts to society” face tragedies beyond our imagination!

Some never leave their mother’s womb alive, being deprived of “a chance of a lifetime!” Others are done away with during the early stages of their lives by a spiteful parent or jealous lover, who use the child to punish their partner.

Some children are fortunate to live a normal life as a teenager; others are less fortunate, losing their lives to alcohol, drugs, violence and crime.

A child is harmed in many ways, such as lack of care or concern by parents, failure to accept responsibility and sheer neglect.

What a pity, what a disgrace, what a crime! May God forgive us, maybe?
