Hostel Collapses, Killing at Least 25
A hostel housing more than 2,000 workers in eastern China collapsed, killing at least 25 people, injuring 27 and leaving more than 30 missing, Hong Kong’s TVB television said. Officials from the coastal city of Putian in Fujian province were quoted as saying rescue workers were searching for survivors. The building belonged to a Hong Kong-based electronics firm, TVB said. Putian city officials said it was not clear why the building collapsed Tuesday night. The incident was the latest in a string of building collapses in China blamed on poor construction.
