Doctors, Clinics Sue to End Abortion Ban
Doctors and abortion clinics filed a lawsuit to overturn a Michigan law banning so-called “partial birth” abortions, claiming it is unconstitutional. The suit was filed on behalf of two doctors and three clinics. The suit alleges that the statute is so vague that officials would be able to prosecute for virtually any abortion after the first trimester of pregnancy. The ACLU is also seeking a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction from U.S. District Court to block the ban before it goes into effect at the end of the month. The lawsuit comes as Congress considers banning the controversial abortion process.
