Chinese Delegation Visits City Leaders

Share

A 16-member Chinese delegation interested in establishing business and cultural ties with Southern California--including Thousand Oaks--spent a day visiting city leaders.

The delegation was from Xian, capital of Shaanxi province in the Wei River Valley and northwest China’s largest city, with more than 4 million residents. It included bankers, the head of a coal mine, the vice mayor of Han Zhong City in Shaanxi province and the secretary of the General China Chamber of International Commerce.

The Xian area is best known for its archeological sites, which include the Terra Cota Warriors, but it is also a major textile and agriculture center.

Thousand Oaks Mayor Judy Lazar, Councilman Mike Markey, Councilwoman Linda Parks and representatives from the offices of Supervisor Frank Schillo and Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) met with the delegation Wednesday.

After a briefing in the Civic Arts Plaza board room, delegates toured City Hall and the performing arts center, lunched in the Founders Room and met with the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce. They also toured the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley.
