County Health Services Plans Week of Meetings, Workshops

The county’s Department of Health Services plans a weeklong series of meetings, seminars and workshops starting Monday throughout the Valley to mark “Public Health Week ’97.”

The events are designed to promote community health in entertaining and informal educational forums. The program, celebrating its 10th anniversary, was created in partnership with the county and local schools, businesses, community organizations and health providers.

During the week, San Fernando Valley hospitals, health centers and clinics will provide physical exams, immunizations, prenatal and postnatal care as well as host special presentations about substance abuse and nutritional counseling.

Activities to be held next week include:

* “Project Lean Diet Control,” a presentation sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Cluster/Northeast Valley Health Corp., to be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at San Fernando High School, 11133 O’Melveny St., Pacoima. Information: (818) 898-1388, Ext. 259.

* A class about diabetes, to be presented at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at North Hollywood Health Center, 5300 Tujunga Ave. Information: (818) 901-4933.

* A health fair, sponsored jointly by Wilkinson Senior Center and the Pacoima Health Center, to be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at 8956 Vanalden Ave., Northridge. Information: (818) 834-6644.

* Hypertension screenings and breast cancer examinations, available at the Tujunga Health Center, 7747 Foothill Blvd., from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Friday. Information: (818) 352-1417.
