BIBLE STORIES: Drama specialist Nili Kosmal will help children and their families reenact Bible stories as part of a workshop at the Skirball Cultural Center. The workshop, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, assists children in understanding a current Bible-inspired exhibit by American sculptor George Segal, at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., in the Sepulveda Pass. HOPE, PEACE AND ZIONISM: The Stacey Cane Yad B’Yad Youth Theatre will perform an original musical about hope and peace titled “If You Will It, It Is Not a Dream,” at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday at Cal State Northridge, 18111 Nordhoff St. Tickets are $18, or $12 for general admission and $10 for children 12 and under. The performance, which will be repeated May 7 at the University of Judaism, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first Zionist Congress and honors the life of Theodor Herzl, founder of modern Zionism. CHURCH AND STATE: A free discussion titled “Separation of Church and State: Vital for Religious Minorities” will be presented by Maher Hathout, senior advisor to the Muslim Public Relations Committee, and Rabbi Jim Kaufman of Temple Beth Hillel. OASIS OF PEACE: Bob Mark and Diana Shalufi-Rizek, representatives of Neve Shalom-Wahat al-Salam, or Oasis of Peace, a village where Jews and Palestinians choose to live and work together in one community, will discuss how the community there continues to learn to understand and respect differences. ARTISTIC ENDEAVORS: Art and music created by 100 members of the Adat Ari El congregation will be displayed as part of a creative service to honor the temple’s artists. SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE: Rabbi Judith Z. Abrams, author and expert on the Talmud, will present three lectures as part of Temple Sinai of Glendale’s Scholar-in-Residence program. Rabbi Abrams will discuss “Jewish Karma: How What You Do Affects What Happens to You,” at 8 p.m. Friday. On April 12, there will be two presentations: “How to Get What You Need from God” will be discussed at 10 a.m. and “A Musical Celebration of Our 10 Years with Rabbi Meyers,” at 7:30 p.m. Rabbi Abrams will conclude with “Preparing for Pesach: Understanding the Mystical Symbols of the Seder,” at 9:30 a.m. April 13 at the temple, 1212 N. ARCHITECTURE HONORED: Shomrei Torah Synagogue of West Hills recently received the Merit Award for Design from the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. After 17 years of planning and construction, the final complex, which stands on 10 acres, includes a new sanctuary and school. The buildings, with their multidimensional geometric shapes, were designed by the architectural firm of Robbins and Bown Inc. The complex was honored for form and compatibility with the adjacent community.
