The sixth annual Devonshire Dash, to be held next Sunday at Cal State Northridge, will raise money to support underprivileged youth programs and community policing.

Sponsored by officers of the LAPD Devonshire Division as well as PALS (Police Activity League Supporters) and SOLID (Supporters of Law Enforcement in Devonshire), the race will feature a 5K walk as well as 5K and 10K runs.

Ruben Lopez, the Los Angeles Police Department’s community relations officer for Devonshire, said the race started out with 200 runners and has steadily grown. There were 1,500 entrants in last year’s race.

“The best thing is that we’ve been able to raise more money every year for programs that really help young people in the community,” Lopez said.

The race courses, starting at Lassen Street and Lindley Avenue, will wind through the CSUN campus and neighboring streets. All courses are certified and sanctioned by U.S. Track and Field.

Runners will compete within age groups, with the top three finishers in each classification receiving awards. Official computerized results will be provided.

The 5K run and walk will begin at 8 a.m., the 10K run will start at 8:20 a.m. Late registration begins at 7 a.m. race day.

Entry fees are $20 general, $10 for students, disabled and seniors 55 and older. Parking is available at the northeast corner of the intersection of Lassen Street and Lindley Avenue. Registration forms are available by calling Lopez at (818) 756-8270.
