A Jewish settler opened fire on Palestinian stone-throwers Monday, wounding two, and Islamic militants warned that Israeli settlers “will not be safe from our human bombs.”

The settler was reportedly driving through the village of Kharbata when he opened fire with an M-16 after young Palestinians stoned his van.

The settler chased down the men, then shifted a handgun he was carrying to his mouth to free his hands to fire the assault rifle, witnesses said. When other villagers threw stones, he fired on them as well, villager Jamil Injas said.

An 18-year-old boy was shot in the chest, and a 27-year-old man was shot in the leg.

The gunman drove away after the attack. Israeli police announced later that they were questioning a 44-year-old suspect from a nearby community.
