The U.S. District Court in San Diego granted Motorola Inc.’s request for a temporary restraining order that prohibits Qualcomm Inc. from making or marketing its “Q” wireless phone. Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola had sued Qualcomm, alleging patent infringement. The court found the “Q” phone was “strikingly similar” to the patented design of Motorola’s StarTac cellular phone. The restraining order is in effect through April 23. San Diego-based Qualcomm has yet to sell any “Q” phones. Qualcomm shares fell $2.375 to close at $53.875 on Nasdaq, while Motorola shares fell $1.50 to close at $58.375 on the NYSE.
