The Play’s the Thing for Tutoring Program

An after-school tutoring program for Moorpark youngsters may take on a new, more artistic direction this summer, with kids staging a play or musical by the season’s end.

The school district hopes to offer a seven-month version of Moorpark Project Pride, where kids will do all the work necessary to produce a play.

“They’re going to do everything, all the way from stage design to a finished production,” school board member Clint Harper said.

Before the summer program becomes a reality, however, the district hopes to convince Moorpark city officials to help with the funding.

The city already helps pay Project Pride’s costs during the school year. Assistant Supt. Frank De Pasquale said the district has not yet determined the program’s full cost.
