Smoking Banned at 2 Fairground Venues

The Orange County Fairgrounds on Thursday banned smoking in the Arlington Theater and the Grandstand Arena--two outdoor facilities used during the annual county fair and events throughout the year.

The Grandstand Arena, home to weekend motocross races, seats about 8,200. The Arlington Theater, a concert venue, has room for about 4,500.

Smoking already is banned in exhibition halls, administrative buildings and the Pacific Amphitheater. Smoking still will be allowed in most outdoor sections of the grounds, such as walkways and rest areas.

Jill Lloyd, spokeswoman for the fairgrounds, said the Fair Board of Directors agreed that the ban was the “healthy thing to do,” passing it with a 6-2 vote.

The ban takes effect on the first day of the Orange County Fair, July 11.
