86er update--Vancouver beat the two-time defending A-League champion Seattle Sounders, 1-0, to open the season April 12 but has lost its last two games, including a 3-1 loss to the California Jaguars Wednesday night in Salinas. The 86ers usually have a large number of players from the Canadian national team, but this season have only three: forwards Garret Kusch and Domenic Mobilio and goalkeeper Paul Dolan.

Zodiac update--The Zodiac won its inaugural game Sunday, beating the El Paso Patriots, 1-0, in overtime on Jose Vasquez’s goal. Vasquez, a former Santa Ana High player, has been nursing a pulled muscle in his leg and coach Tony Cerna says the forward “still isn’t 100%, but he’s getting there.”
