THE POWER OF LOVE: Memories of the Holocaust told through the eyes of Raja, a young survivor of the Terezin camp, will be performed by members of the Valley Beth Shalom Community Theater, in the drama “I Never Saw Another Butterfly.” Written by Celeste Raspanti, the play was described as “a story of the beauty of love and how love frees us.” It is directed by Adam Rich, former child star of the television sitcom “Eight Is Enough.” Performances will be at 8 tonight and May 3, 2 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. May 4 at Valley Beth Shalom, 15739 Ventura Blvd., Encino. GOLF TO BENEFIT MINISTRY: The Second Annual Woodland Hills United Methodist Church Golf Tournament, to benefit the Children’s Ministry Program, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Westlake Golf Course, 4812 Lakeview Canyon Road, Westlake Village. THE SYMBOL OF THE CROSS: The Glendale Chapter of Church Women United will welcome the Rev. Don Locher to their May Fellowship Day meeting. Locher, former pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Glendale, is now retired, but creates carved wood crosses in his Sierra Madre studio. Locher will discuss “The Cross as Symbols and Artful Adornments” at the meeting, and show examples of his work. TAKING HIS VOWS: The Rev. David Bruner will be ordained Friday at United Church of Religious Science of North Hollywood, 6161 Whitsett Ave. Bruner, who has completed over two years as an active licensed minister and has passed a review by a panel of ordained ministers, will take his vows in a ceremony conducted by the Rev. PRAYER RETREATS: Local artist Paula Bacinski will lead a prayer retreat titled “Find the Light” at Holy Spirit Retreat Center of Encino, 4316 Lanai Road, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. Information: (818) 784-4515.

“Divine Love” will be the theme of the annual OneHeart Retreat and meditation practice beginning Friday and ending May 4 at St. Andrew’s Abbey, a community of Benedictine monks in Valyermo. The cost is $120 for double-room occupancy, $150 for a single.

A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE: International Holocaust Memorial Day, held in remembrance of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust, also known as Yom Hashoah, will be commemorated at several Valley temples and synagogues beginning Thursday. Some are listed here; others will be listed May 3.

* Holocaust survivors Dr. Jack Brauns) and author Si Frumkin will discuss their experiences and insights at Yom Hashoah services at 8 p.m. Friday at Shomrei Torah Synagogue, 7353 Valley Circle Blvd., West Hills. Brauns, who survived three years in the Kovno Ghetto and one year in Dachau, trained as a surgeon after his liberation. Frumkin, who was liberated from Dachau, founded the Southern California Council of Soviet Jews and lectures on Eastern Europe, Jewish and Middle Eastern history. Information: (818) 346-0811.
