LAPD Poised to Name Its First Female Commander
The Los Angeles Civil Service Commission on Friday certified a police promotion list that clears the way for the first female officer in the history of the department to be appointed to the rank of commander.
The list for promoting captains to the rank of commander had been contested by Capt. James Tatreau, who alleged that the testing process for rating the candidates was unfair.
After an extensive review of how the candidates were graded and ranked, the commission voted 4 to 0 to certify the list. The City Council has five meetings to review the matter. If the council does not object, the list is officially certified.
The top candidate on the list is Capt. Betty Kelepecz.
