‘Johnny 100 Pesos’

Drawing from a 1990 incident, Chilean filmmaker Gustavo Graef Marino makes this 1994 release a tart, timely political suspense film. It finds 17-year-old Johnny (Mexican super star Armando Araiza, pictured) entering a nondescript downtown Santiago apartment building and taking an elevator to the most unobtrusive video store imaginable--a front for an illegal currency exchange (Showtime Tuesday at 4:25 a.m.).
