Russian Jewels Tour Remains in Doubt
The first U.S. tour of Russia’s Romanov jewels is virtually certain to reach Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts, but the remainder of the tour remains in doubt, a lawyer for the Russians said. Attorney Timothy L. Dickinson said he hoped there would be more talks about taking the jewels to other stops, which include Memphis, Tenn., and San Diego. Mikhail Gusman, who heads the Russian organizing committee for the tour, agreed. A dispute between Russian authorities and the American Russian Cultural Cooperation Foundation threatens to halt the tour early.
