Sidewalk OKd Near Orangethorpe School
The city has won permission to build a sidewalk next to Orangethorpe Elementary School.
Trustees of the Fullerton School District, which owns the property, this week granted the 932-square-foot easement to the city. District officials said the Pacific Drive sidewalk would make the area safer for pedestrians.
A 7-year-old boy was struck by a car and critically injured last year as he crossed the nearby Pacific and Orangethorpe Avenue intersection. The city erected a traffic signal there after parents of Orangethorpe students and school district officials requested it.
In 1993, two 9-year-old girls were hit by a car and killed in the same intersection.
