California by the Codes
Every kind of business is done, on or through the telephone these days, so it is only natural to see California geographically through area codes. The headquarters of publicly held companies listed on the major exchanges are concentrated in urban areas, of course, with strong concentrations in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Southern California, true to its soul, has about the same number of companies but they are spread over a larger area.
