Michael C. Eulau, a CPA with M. Frank Eulau Accountancy Corp. in Ventura, has been awarded a certificate of educational achievement in business valuation by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

To earn the certificate, he completed a 64-hour program on financial theory, data research, report writing and special issues such as marketability and minority interest discounts.

* Jerry W. Harwood, co-owner of Channel Islands Financial and Insurance Services in Ventura, was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Financial Services Award by Lincoln Financial and Insurance Services. He was selected from six finalists who had been chosen from 200 financial service professionals throughout California.

Harwood also was honored as Lincoln Financial’s leading producer of life insurance business in 1996.

* James D. Griffin of Camarillo has joined Bank of Ventura, formerly First National Bank of Ventura, as vice president of lending. He will be responsible for developing new business clients, initiating lending relationships and servicing current accounts.

He was vice president and manager of the Camarillo branch of First State Bank of the Oaks from 1986 to 1994.

* Jeanne M. MacCalden and Kimberly E. Abkin have joined the law firm of Hatch & Parent as associates in the litigation department. MacCalden, a graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law, will specialize in real estate, probate and business litigation. Abkin graduated from Santa Barbara College of Law last year.

Hatch & Parent has offices in Oxnard, Santa Barbara and Lake Tahoe.

* Joanne Burch has been installed as chairwoman of the Nancy R. Brandt Auxiliary of the Assistance League. Also installed into the professional women’s group were Betty Krause, first vice chairwoman; Anne Theis, second vice chairwoman; Madeleine Waddell, third vice chairwoman; and Susan McDonald, chapter representative.

The auxiliary was formed seven years ago to allow working women to be involved in the Assistance League, which provides volunteers for philanthropic projects.

* William J. Spellman, vice president and dental director of Golden West Dental and Vision Plan in Camarillo, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Assn. of Dental Plans. Spellman, a dentist for 34 years, was a founder of Golden West Dental & Vision.

* American Pacific State Bank named Peter Steinmann senior vice president of its business banking group.

Steinmann previously headed the business banking group at TransWorld Bank, which is being acquired by Glendale Federal Bank.

American Pacific, headquartered in Sherman Oaks, has eight offices and is a major provider of SBA loans.

* Amgen Inc. has promoted Lawrence M. Souza as its senior vice president of research. He succeeds Daniel Vapnek, who has retired.

Souza previously had been vice president of molecular and cellular biology at the company, and he has worked at Amgen since 1981, shortly after the company was founded.

Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, is the biggest biotechnology company in the U.S.

* Alan D. Fulkerson has joined Hasan Consultants, a Ventura consulting and engineering firm, as manager of the land development design team. A registered professional engineer in California and Oregon, Fulkerson’s background includes 15 years as project engineer/manager for private and municipal projects.

He will be in charge of municipal and private projects for Hasan.

* Michael P. Kenney, a partner with G.W. Kenney Co. in Thousand Oaks, has earned the chartered life underwriter designation from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. The college offers professional designation and graduate degree programs for people seeking career advancement in life insurance and financial services.

Those receiving the designation must complete a 10-course curriculum of study and 20 hours of exams, plus meet experience and ethical requirements.

* Mohr Marketing Group in Oxnard has named Suzann Schuh as president. She holds a doctorate in psychology and an MBA in strategic planning.

Mohr specializes in marketing plans integrating Internet technology with a company’s business objectives.

* Ventura-based Jano Graphics has hired John Candelaria to head its newly created marketing and technical assistance department. Candelaria worked for Jano several years ago, when he established its electronic prepress department.

Candelaria will work with Jano’s existing sales representatives and with customers to help answer technical questions and provide assistance with complex printing jobs.
