Pair Arrested After Drug Lab Sparked House Fire, Police Say

LA HABRA — Two men were arrested on drug charges early Monday after the house they were living in caught fire and a drug lab was discovered inside, police said.
The garage and part of the house in the 1500 block of Sheffield Drive were ablaze when fire and police authorities were called to the scene just after 5 a.m., said La Habra Police Sgt. Phil Stufflebean.
After the blaze was extinguished, investigators found the illegal drug lab, which apparently caused the fire, Stufflebean said.
Glenn Stevens, 40, and Manuel Castro, 32, escaped without injury but were arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and attempt to manufacture illegal drugs.
“It flamed up on them,” Stufflebean said. “They managed to avoid getting hurt but the house went up. This is a dangerous activity and we’re lucky we got to it when we did.”
Stevens and Castro were being held at La Habra City Jail.
