A new teen center at the old Oxnard High School will hold its grand opening Saturday and all area youth are invited.
The Police Activities League Teen Center at K and 5th streets provides teenagers a safe place to explore their creative side and receive employment training, according to Sunny Atkinson, director of the Oxnard Gang Prevention and Mural Program. They can use the Internet or just lounge.
On Saturday, there will be mural painting from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with free sidewalk space and paint for all youth artists. Team athletics will go on all day, and there will be a free buffet for youth.
The ribbon cutting takes place at 6 p.m. The grand opening ceremonies will include Aztec dancers, a teen talent show and tours of the center.
