Fire, Police Officials Plan Busy Safety Fair

Kids will be jabbed with needles and fingerprinted Saturday at Port Hueneme’s municipal beach--but it’s all for a good cause.
Free immunizations and child safety fingerprinting are among the events scheduled during the city’s inaugural Summer Safety Beach Festival.
Children are encouraged to bring their bicycles for a bike safety rodeo.
Fire and police officials will host a variety of demonstrations and exhibits, including an appearance by a police dog named Spike. Wrestler Gary “Krusher” Kee is scheduled to attend, and people will have the opportunity to drop Mayor Tony Volante and Police Chief John Hopkins in a dunk tank.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lots adjacent to Hueneme Pier. A pancake breakfast kicks off the event at 7:30 a.m. at the Port Hueneme Cultural Center, 575 E. Surfside Drive.
