Re “Marinship,” letter, May 22:
The first ships built by Marinship were indeed Liberty ships. I was among the first employees of the new shipyard in early 1942.
Marin City was thrown up to house the thousands of workers brought in from all over the country. We built Liberty ships for about a year then switched to larger troop carriers, which I think were called Victory ships. Then, after I left to go into the service, the yard switched to tankers.
