Textile Maker Agrees to Labeling Fine

West Point-Stevens agreed to pay $360,000 to settle government charges that it deceived consumers about the amount of Pima cotton in its sheets and towels. The Federal Trade Commission said sheets and towels containing between 6% and 50% Pima cotton were labeled 100% Pima cotton. The FTC said the penalty paid by Georgia-based West Point-Stevens is the largest ever under the federal Textile Act. The charges and proposed settlement were filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
