* Anna E. Oris; Former Ventura Motel Owner

Anna E. Oris, former owner of the Crystal Lodge in Ventura, died Sunday. She was 82.

Oris was born Nov. 20, 1914, in Springfield, Mass. In 1967, she and her husband, Michael, moved to Ventura and bought the Crystal Lodge motel, which they operated for 10 years.

“My mother was a very quiet person,” said Oris’ daughter, Dorothy Bailey of Ventura. “Her biggest excitement in life was Las Vegas and bingo.”

Oris loved to crochet and made sweaters and afghans for the family.

“All of us, the sisters and the grandchildren, have afghans that he made,” Bailey said.

Oris is also survived by daughter Virginia Bourland of Victorville; three brothers, Ed Patten of Chula Vista, Frank Patten of Florida and Bill Patten of Ventura; three sisters, Gertrude Gesseck of Las Vegas, Ruth Fielder of Oakdale, Calif., and Ginger Souders of Oakdale, Conn.; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura, with Father Don Grasha officiating. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
