Council Moves on Restricting Tobacco, Alcohol Billboards
- Share via
The Los Angeles City Council took a step Tuesday toward imposing tough restrictions on where tobacco and alcohol billboards can be placed.
The restrictions would be aimed at keeping children from being bombarded with the ads, which politicians, parents and activists contend glamorize smoking and drinking.
“The legislation is a long time coming,” Councilman Richard Alarcon said.
After a 90-day city Planning Department study, the city attorney is expected to draft an ordinance.
The council voted 14-0 to support the study.
