The Orangewood Home for Children has received a $20,000 gift from a computer manufacturer, officials said Tuesday.
Orangewood, a home in Garden Grove for abused children, will use the money to help build a new playground. The gift came from Viking Components of Rancho Santa Margarita, which raised the money through a recent golf charity event and from private donations.
The company, which manufactures computer components, has had an affiliation with Orangewood for several years and has started a program in which employees have the option of spending one paid day a month volunteering at the home.
The $20,000 donation is the final funding needed for an $80,000 playground, Orangewood officials said.
“Our children were so happy to hear that they would be getting a new playground,” said Gene Howard, Orangewood’s executive director.
